Foxes' "Body Talk" - Single Review

English singer/songwriter Foxes is ready for another shot at worldwide recognition. While her "Glorious" and refreshing debut album may have been overlooked upon its release last year, tracks such as "Holding Onto Heaven" and "Let Go For Tonight" showcased the artist's true talent and passion.

With a Billboard Hot 100 hit, a GRAMMY and an upcoming collaboration with dance legend Giorgio Moroder already under her belt, Foxes' sophomore effort is shaping up to be another intriguing collection of pop-leaning magic, especially with today's premiere of the project's lead single. "Body Talk" can still be categorized with the rest of the artist's synth-pop catalog, but steers Foxes into uncharted retro/disco territory, giving the single another element.

"Body Talk" finds the "Clarity" songstress craving the touch of her former lover once again, until she discovers later on that she really does not need it anymore. She's free. "I can see in the light, it's not right, now I know, I don't need him," she sings on the track's hook before a radio-tailored chorus comes around to really tie everything together.

Besides solid, easy to follow, songwriting, the new single from Foxes carries a strong impact thanks to an impressive vocal performance (not like that was ever doubted), one that truly sounds complex due to the mixed emotions the artist goes through during the almost four minute effort. It carry a message many will be able to resonate with alongside an infectious, throwback beat.

While it may not be a groundbreaking piece of pop, the new "Body Talk" does keep pushing Foxes slowly into a new artistic direction. The production is a bit more lively than most of her debut effort, but it's nice to hear that the artist has not completely forgotten her original sound that made her a quick, rising star in 2013. Looking forward to album #2!
