The third Islamophobia in Australia report was released this morning to coincide with the third anniversary of the shootings.

It outlined the shocking abuse and violence experienced by Muslims in Australia. Online Islamophobia was reported 18 times as often in the immediate aftermath of the attacks and real-world Islamophobia quadrupled.

Just months after a terrorist stormed into two Christchurch mosques and gunned down dozens of worshippers, ultimately resulting in the death of 51, someone desecrated one of Australia's oldest mosques. A swastika was spray-painted onto it, along with a racial slur lifted from the Christchurch terrorist and a message referring to him as a saint. Click here RNZ news

Coronation Street star Jack James Ryan suggests testicular cancer story

Susannah Alexander 14/03/2022...Coronation Street actor Jack James Ryan has suggested that he would like the soap to explore a testicular cancer story for his character, Jacob Hay. Victoria Ekanoye, who was diagnosed with breast cancer last year.

He has now told Inside Soap that, having been given the all-clear from testicular cancer, he would like to explore the issue on-screen too and bring wider awareness of the condition in young men. I like the idea of being able to tell stories that I have personal experience with, he said.

When I was 18, I was diagnosed with testicular cancer – I'm fine and in remission now. But when I found out, the doctor said that it was common for young men and I had never heard that before. I'd really love to find a way of telling a story like that for Jacob and opening the conversation. Click here Digital spy

Russians in NZ facing hostility, abuse, bullying at school

William Hewett 14/03/2022..Russians living in New Zealand are experiencing a rise in hostility and abuse following the invasion of Ukraine. Dennis Vlasin, a Russian living in New Zealand, told AM on Monday he knows of some kids getting bullied because they're Russian.

"My own kids are too young to go to school but from my own friends, I've heard their children were bullied because they are Russian and asked, 'Why are you so aggressive? Why do you attack Ukraine? You are bad' and some really rude words," he told AM.

People were coming back home in tears and parents were crying as well. They have started conversations with principals and teachers and it's kind of a really bad thing happening now. Vlasin said a lot of Russians moved here because of the decisions Vladimir Putin has made. . Click here News-hub

For the love of food: how to eat your way around Mumbai

Radhika Aligh 13/03/2022...Mumbai is a city that loves to eat. Eateries here are not just places you go to feed your hunger, but more a celebration of cultures and traditions by those who cook and those who savour it.

Bombay (as it was then known) is the place of my childhood and where I spent much of my teenage years mastering the art of squeezing into packed local trains and drinking tea at every hour of the day and night (yes, you can have a cuppa at 2am). But more importantly, it is the city that introduced me to unimaginable flavours where sweet and sour met spicy and tangy - all in a mouthful.

Even now, almost two decades later, I make a list of places I want to eat at during my annual trips there. From the roadside favourite Vada Pav (potato ball served in a bun) to Parsi (Zoroastrian refugees from Persia) meat delicacies, here is how to explore Mumbai’s diversity through food. Click here Evening Standard

England settle for ‘brave losers vibe’ as Ireland defeat raises doubts

Gerard Meagher 14/03/2022...In England’s national sporting psyche there is a special place reserved for the gallant loser. At times it can feel a little schmaltzy, a touch indulgent. To be beaten but unbowed is a romantic notion though one that can also suggest a certain nobility when the cold, hard facts point to a definitive defeat.

Leaving a frazzled Twickenham late on Saturday night you could not help but wonder whether the heroic nature of such a defeat was overblown or if the plaudits heading England’s way were justified after resisting Ireland for so long with 14 men, before two late tries broke their spirit.

Maybe Ellis Genge summed it up best when writing on social media: “Not a fan of the old brave losers vibe but I think circumstances probably warrant that. Related: Honourable defeat could be turning point in Jones’s search for leadership | Andy Bull..Click here The Guardian

Kerr strikes to give Chelsea some joy

Ian Chadband 14/03/2022...Sam Kerr has produced a brilliant stoppage time winner, and celebration, against Aston Villa in the Women's Super League to give Chelsea a rare moment of cheer at the end of a traumatic week for the London club.

The Australian's goal two minutes into stoppage time, taking a long ball down on her chest and beating the advancing keeper with a cool finish, was only matched for excellence by Kerr's exuberant goal celebration on Sunday. The Matildas captain wheeled away joyfully, whipped off her shirt and waved it around her head after sealing the 1-0 win.

It brought her the inevitable killjoy booking but prompted laughs and cheers from the fans at Kingsmeadow, who had a moment of welcome distraction amid a troubling few days. This was Chelsea women's first home match since owner Roman Abramovich, Click here AAP

How other countries are combatting skyrocketing fuel prices as Cabinet considers options

Jamie Ensor 14/03/2022..Cabinet will decide on Monday afternoon how to alleviate the pain of an "energy crisis", with the Prime Minister signalling some form of fuel tax relief could be an option.

The Government has previously refused to commit to intervening at the petrol pump, but there was a change in tune from Jacinda Ardern on Monday morning as she finally acknowledged New Zealand is facing a cost-of-living crisis.

Inflation is at a 30-year high - mostly due to the pandemic, supply chains issues and geopolitical tensions - and Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February isn't helping, leading oil prices to head north. Petrol is well above $3 at many stations across the country and there are warnings it could soon hit $4. You can call it a crisis, an emergency, a shock. . Click here News-hub
