Hockney is known for his pastel-colored portraits of life in L.A. in the 60s and 70s, but recently moved back to his native England. I think these new paintings look like the English countryside as if it were Oz; beautiful, fanciful, yet based in realism. I really love his new direction, and it's great when any artist keeps pushing himself to find new inspirations.
